Hi, I’m Charlie (not Larry)

Happy Larry is the brainchild of Sydney-based director and producer Charles Taperell.

Charles has been delivering client-based video productions to happy clients for over a decade. Previous clients include ANZ, Westfield, Bonds, Australian Government, Jurlique, Nikon, French Connection, Vice, Bloomberg Green, Time Out, Visit Canberra, BresicWhitney, Unions NSW, Yulli's Brews and Greenpeace.

Starting off with a Fine Arts degree and later studying law, Charles has experience in a variety of domains leaving him well-placed to manage your video project, be it in the corporate world or at a not-for-profit.

Happy Larry is powered by director and DOP Gene Alberts.

Gene has been servicing happy clients for over 10 years including LinkedIn, UTS, DNSW, MetLife, TAL, UberEats, and others. He has made over twenty narrative and documentary short films including a half-hour TV pilot. Several of his films have screened live to thousands of people at top international film festivals such as Austin Film festival, Tropfest, Flickerfest, Crested Butte Colorado, St Kilda Film festival and many others.

He was selected as 1 of 15 directors for the AFTRS Graduate Diploma in Directing (Fiction & Non Fiction) and holds a Bachelor of Design: Visual Communications at UTS.

So what’s up with the name?

Defined simply as meaning ‘very happy’, the origins of the very Australian phrase “as happy as Larry” remain obscure.

For us, ‘Happy Larry’ means calm, curious, collaborative workflows. And, of course, absolutely chuffed clients!
